WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW: Four new models under the Special Select Jet Set banner. The limited-release, black Special Select Jet Set Newport, Special Select Jet Set Newport Plus, Special Select Jet Set Newport 2 and Special Select Jet Set Newport 2 Plus. The two Plus models introduce slightly wider profiles than standard face-to-flange blade dimensions while the other two models are more conventionally shaped.
AVAILABILITY/PRICE: The Special Select Jet Set putters will be available in golf shops August 19. Price is $650.
THE DEEP DIVE: Scotty Cameron is renowned for getting his inspiration from, well, pretty much anywhere. In the case of his latest Special Select Jet Set putters, the look is a nod to custom car builders.
“The Tour Black finish is something a lot of people really like, so when I can, I make putters using it combined with dark, smoky accent,” said Cameron. “The overall tone-on-tone look is inspired by custom car builders, and that’s where the Jet Set name originates.”
Each model boasts a Tour Black finish with a dark color scheme, stepless steel shaft, a new textured Pistolini Plus grip, shaft band and headcover. Each head is milled from 303 stainless steel and features Cameron’s customizable sole weights, as well as aluminum sole plates designed to optimize weight distribution in the wider profile of the Plus models.
The Jet Set Newport is a heel-toe weighted blade with a plumber’s neck and sightline milled on the topline. With more rounded features, the putter has a solid face and adjustable tungsten sole weights. The Jet Set Newport 2 is based off the iconic Newport 2 shape with a plumber’s neck and tri-sole as well as tungsten weights. As he often does with putters for tour players, the sightline is milled on the topline rather than the flange. A limited number of left-handed Special Select Jet Set Newport 2 models also were produced.
The line also features two Plus models. “The Plus models are in between the width of a Newport 2 and a Squareback 2,” said Cameron. “I developed this 'tweener' size working with a few Tour players who wanted something in between the width of a traditional blade and our Squareback flange width. The Special Select Jet Set Newport Plus and Newport 2 Plus offer those desired sizes and happen to be the first we’ve created for all golfers.”
Cameron accommodated the larger footprint of the Newport Plus model by distributing weight to the perimeter and incorporating a 6061 aircraft grade aluminum sole plate. The Jet Set Newport 2 Plus splits the difference in flange width between a Special Select Newport 2 and Squareback 2. The head is milled from 303 stainless steel with a solid face and has a 6061 aircraft grade aluminum sole plate. Both Plus models are anodized black and engraved with the line’s Jet Set graphics. A milled flange sight line provides clean alignment, while customizable stainless steel sole weights offer balance.
The limited release Special Select Jet Set putters will be available at authorized golf shops worldwide on August 19. Cost is $650.
