DETROIT LAKES — Drew Michael Nelson, 19, of Fargo has been charged in Becker County District Court with one count of felony and one count of gross misdemeanor fifth-degree controlled substance crime.
According to court records, on May 28, a state trooper pulled Nelson over for driving 77 mph in a 60 mph zone on Highway 59 in Becker County.
The trooper smelled a strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle, and saw green shake around the center console. The vehicle was searched, and in a backpack the trooper found shake plates, grinders, storage jars, plastic bags, marijuana smoking pipes and paraphernalia. One of the bags contained approximately 1 gram of green leaf marijuana.
In the center console, a small rubber jar containing THC marijuana wax was found, weighing approximately 3 grams, with the container.
A summons ordered Nelson to appear in court on July 21, at which time he was released without bail, under standard conditions.
His next court appearance is set for Sept. 19.
